OLON BERLIN, GERMANY
Acerca de
In April 2022, the first event of its kind in Germany provided a platform for Indigenous and non-Indigenous experts from the Global South and Europe, under the title "No biodiversity without human diversity".
The conservation model that dominates today is violent, colonialist, and racist - land is stolen in the name of "conservation," the ways of life of Indigenous and local communities are criminalized, and their knowledge and rights are ignored. Berlin OLON highlighted that this is not an "other people's problem" because it is promoted and paid for by Western organizations and governments. Speakers and audience took a special look at Germany's role in international conservation in East Africa and the Congo Basin.
Elias Kimaiyo, Human and Land Rights Defender, Kenya
To further the work begun during these conferences, leading experts and activists from around the world continue to explain what’s wrong with “conservation.” In this powerful video, Elias Kimaiyo, Indigenous human and land rights defender, exposes this Big Green Lie and talks about human rights violations, evictions and threats posed by the Kenya Forest Service against the Sengwer people - with funds from the Global North. All in the name of “conservation”!
